Headquartered in Prince George’s County, AED is registered as a MBE with the following agencies; Prince George’s County Minority Business Development Division (PGMBDD), Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) as a DBE, and the Maryland/District of Columbia Minority Supplier Diversity Council (MD/DC MSDC). We also hold a GSA Consolidated Professional Engineering (PES), Environmental, and IT (70) Schedule GS-00F-0005T.

Founded in 1991, AED is a full service, multi-disciplined engineering, construction management and professional services firm. Our MEP design capabilities include certified fire protection and complete MEP design. Our engineering staff is comprised of Professionals Engineers, Certified LEED Professionals, Certified Energy Managers and proven designers. Our project expertise is commercial, educational, government, hospitality, healthcare, industrial, and retail and water/wastewater facilities. Our engineering services include commissioning, construction administration, electrical design, energy analysis, facility assessments, fire protection, HVAC, LEED/Sustainable design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, plumbing design and structural design.

AED has over thirty years of experience in MEP engineering design of hospitals and health care related facilities including assisted living homes for the elderly, privately-owned clinics, and laboratories. A major business market of our firm has involved project work for no less than 18 universities as clients. In the local region we have designed buildings for colleges and universities which are a part of the Hampton University, University of Maryland system, and multiple buildings at Howard University, American University, the University of the District of Columbia, and Georgetown University Performing Arts Center.

Wealth of Experience

Through these projects, which include virtually every type of modern campus facility, we have gained a wealth of experience in:

  • Close collaboration with university plant engineers, university project managers, university user activities
  • Analysis of the capacities of central plants and underground utilities distribution systems (steam, high temperature hot water, chilled water, natural gas, electrical power) to support new construction and renovation.
  • Engineering master planning and programming. We understand how to work effectively with universities as clients and the importance of cost and schedule control to ensure delivery of the project in accordance with academic schedule requirements.
HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CARE PROJECTS
  • Sibley Memorial Hospital

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the renovation of Sibley Memorial Hospital I.C.U., surgery rooms (O.R.s), and X-Ray facilities.

  • D.C. General Hospital

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the renovation and modernization of D.C. General Hospital. Major work included replacement of primary HVAC equipment including chillers; upgrades to the HVAC system including HCAC controls; and upgrades to the electrical power and lighting including life safety systems. New spaces added included TB Labs and Women’s Sexual Transmission Disease (STD) Clinic. Client-D.C. General Hospital,

  • Georgetown University Hospital

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the renovation and conversion of existing labs into a new AIDS research lab suite. Other projects for the university hospital included resource research facilities. Client -G.U. Facilities Division.

  • V.A. Hospital

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the renovation and modernization of the V.A. Hospital under an open-end, Indefinite Quantity Contract (IQC). Tasks included renovation of surgery rooms, ICU, sterilization facilities, emergency treatment rooms, and numerous medical clinics. Client -V.A.

  • Howard University Hospital

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the Howard University School of Medicine, including renovation and modernization of the Hospital (clean rooms, cold rooms, clinics); School of Pharmacy (pharmacology labs, chemistry labs; and the Cancer Treatment Center ( deep therapy, radiology labs, clinics). Client – Howard University Department of Physical Facilities

  • Ambulatory Care Facility

AED performed prime MEP engineering design services for the 50,000 s.f. D.C. Ambulatory Care Facility a privately owned facility operated by a health care provider. Spaces included medical clinics, sterilization facilities, emergency treatment rooms, surgery rooms (O.R.s), recovery rooms, and administrative offices
